Dyscalculia a specific and persistent difficulty in understanding numbers which can lead to a diverse range of difficulties with mathematics. It will be unexpected in relation to age, level of education and experience and occurs across all ages and abilities. The defining characteristic of dyscalculia is difficulty with number sense, including subitising, symbolic and non-symbolic magnitude comparison, and ordering.
According to the guidelines set out by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC), we conduct an investigation into general cognitive ability, working memory, verbal memory, visual sequential memory, processing speed and rapid automatic naming, alongside the key characterise of dyscalculia including procedural, symbolic and verbal dyscalculic traits. An in-depth analysis is carried out to evidence whether underlying difficulties in mathematics are related to dyscalculia, another specific learning difference, or another aspect of neurodivergence.
We are able to test & assess children from eight years old through to adults. Although it is possible to diagnose dyscalculia in a child as young as eight years old, the child must be capable of participating in a thorough testing & assessment process.
Each assessment begins with a consultation to determine the most appropriate route through the service, considering assessment and/or alternative support to this. If you would like to book a face to face or telephone consultation then please contact us on
